What is the purpose of the slots located on the head of the fixed and the sliding jaws of the ARNOLD MAT vice?

The ARNOLD MAT vices have slots with threaded holes on the vice body and the sliding jaw.

These slots are designed for setting up top jaws in order to clamp large work-pieces.

There are two types of standard jaws:

The straight (smooth) jaws are hardened and ground squares H7/g6 with a length equivalent to the width of the vice and attached to the vice by means of two screws.

The serrated/smooth jaws (H7/g6) have a double function: one side is smooth for standard clamping operations and the other is serrated suitable for more rigid clamping requirements.

It is understandable that a certain amount of work-piece deformation will occur due to the distance between the jaws and the guides of the vice body. Ideal work-pieces therefore are parts such as plates.

The following clamping ranges are obtained with these jaws.

Model 090 125 160 200
1st Position 80-210 80-285 110-420 110-420
2nd Position 80-210 150-355 180-490 180-490
Overall vice body length 300 570 410 570

This means that the vices can clamp parts that represent up to 85% of the vice body providing a considerable advantage in comparison to other vices.

The ARNOLD MAT PROX provide the same advantages by means of the slots available for top jaws.
